Sculpture update

Many moons have passed and I've made some progress with the life-study sculpture that I roughed out in the class.  Here she is now, standing, or rather sitting, 14cm tall...

Ceramics

At last, a new post!  I've returned to the pottery studio down the road and made a few oddments.  Mostly experimental stuff to get into the swing of things again :-)

Life-study sculpture

After playing with plasticine the other day I thought it'd be fun to try sculpting in my life class, so I made a wire armature and took some modelling clay along with me.  This is the 'sketch' I made during the last fifty minutes of the class...

And here are a couple of drawings from the same session...

Plasticine playtime

I picked up a lump of plasticine the other day in a meeting at work and doodled this head...

Then I got carried away and made this figure, she has a mighty butt :-)

Halloween

Everyone's at it, pumpkin carving, here's my first effort.  I thought it'd be cool to include the pumpkin skin in the design and I used it for his hair...

Swing chair

When I was younger we had a swing chair in our garden and I spent many happy hours on it during the summer months.  I missed that old thing so I thought I'd make one for my current garden.

There's a flowering cherry tree in the centre of the lawn which I noticed had a couple of suitably positioned branches from which I might suspend a swing chair, if I were to make one.  So I drew up some designs and planned the construction of a two-seater swinging bench.

I don't have a workshop so I cobbled this thing together in the spare bedroom, the hallway and the garden. It was a bit tricky but it came together in the end...

Pots

I dabbled with some ceramics a couple of years ago, I hope to dabble again sometime! Alongside some 'normal' pots I made a pot/vase/sculpture for my Mum's sixtieth birthday.  I tried to incorporate the number 60 into the form of the piece and burnished it with the back of a spoon for hours to get the silky unglazed finish...

And here are some 'bullet' shaped vessels that I quite like...
This is a wall-hanging sculpture that looks like a bowl, but isn't. I like the contrast between the glazed interior and the raw exterior....
